Fondant or fondant icing

Fondant’s fine structure of sugar offers many possibilities. It not only gives cakes a smooth, shiny and colorful layer; it is also very suitable for many creative decorations.

Fondant is an opaque semi-liquid with a creamy, smooth consistency made by boiling and stirring water and sugar. After cooling, it forms a malleable mass that can easily be used for covering cakes or be modeled into beautifully detailed decorations. Most of the time it must be processed when it is warm Cakes get an almost satiny look when they are covered with fondant because it has a very fine structure.

Fondant consists almost entirely of sugar, which gives it a sweet taste and a white color. Therefore, it can be easily be colored and flavored.
